The Flags of the Imperial Russian Army 1797-1813.

From the Pattern introduced in 1797 by tsar Paul I. up to the latest Model in late 1813, the Russian Army flew a consideral number of different flag designs. The ROFUR-FLAGS range covers the colours and standards flown up to just after the battle of Leipzig in October 1813. A great number of units still carried the 1797 pattern flags at this time.
When in 1797 each company had got one colour/standard of its own, the number had been reduced to 2 per bataillon in 1802 and to 2 per Regiment in 1807. Each regiment flew one "white" colour and one or several identical Regimental flags with coloured ground. The flag was carried by a NCO.

Additional confusion easily may be caused by the fact that some newly raised units were given surplus flags from already existing regiments or that the names of several units changed during the napoleonic wars period. Others were placed into the guards corps after having been in the line before. Some troops had been converted from dragoons to lancers or from line infantry to the light branch. Then, in different sources, the same unit sometimes is named as "grenadiers", "grenadiers of the guard" or lifeguard-infantry.
